KiD Chameleon
A BOLD START
Welcome to my Capstone Project! This is a Bold Start in that it is serving as a creative jump-off point for a multi-genre, user friendly website that can be used for Music Educators around the world! The plan is to continue recording numerous songs in different genres and allow the user to select which performer (track) they would like to add to the “stage”. This customizable method of selection allows for a fun, engaging way for the user to sonically hear the differences inherent in playing an instrument in different styles and gives them an opportunity to create their own unique version of each song.
Because the idea is for people from all walks of life to be able to access this website, content will be free of charge and, rather than having the user identify with a person, the “players” available to choose from are represented by an amalgamation of ever-growing, gender neutral cartoon animals created by Bob Collins. These characters will be dressed in outfits that represent the type of music that will be heard upon selecting them and moving them to the stage. Since the general philosophy is geared towards artistic freedom and choice, the moniker KiD Chameleon is intended as a welcome invitation to create while having the freedom to “change ones’ skin”. For the purposes of this project, I chose dogs, cats, and mice to be represented in each genre; however, the long term goal is to continuously develop more animal characters to choose from.
In order to showcase the intended outcome, I’ve written, recorded, and produced two songs each in 3 different genres: Rock, Hip Hop, and Country. Both songs contain lyrics meant to inspire and suitable for children of any age. Below, you can listen to all six, current tracks and view the most current adaptations of character designs. Enjoy!
DON’T GIVE IN
“If you’re feeling lost like you cannot win, and you can’t find comfort in your own skin - Don’t Give In.”
Loosely inspired by my first bands’ first song (of the same name), this tune is meant as a lending hand for those who struggle with depression. The original signature riff can be heard twice in each recording!
SMILE
“S.M.I.L.E., smile; it’ll do you good once in a while. ‘Cause after all they’ve taken, don’t let them take that from you.”
Did you know that it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown? Everyone deserves the chance to smile each and every day. This song serves as a reminder that, sometimes, “faking it ‘til you make” it is all you can do and can, in fact, help your day feel just a bit better.
